It is important that we have up to date contact details for you. This will allow us to contact you either in an emergency for your child or if we need to contact you for an unplanned closure.

In the event of us having to close the school for an unforeseen event, e.g. bad weather, no heating etc. we will be able to inform you in a number of ways as detailed below.

INDIVIDUAL PHOTOGRAPHS

Dear parents

Monday 8th NOVEMBER: INDIVIDUAL PHOTOGRAPHS

Arrangements have been made for the photographer to be in school on the above date to take the
pupils photographs individually, in family groups (brothers and sisters already attending school) and
family groups including children not yet in school. Should you wish your children to have their
photographs taken, please co-operate with the following arrangements:

All school children should be wearing the full school uniform

Individual photographs

All children in both school and nursery will have their photographs taken individually.


Family Groups

We will organise family groups containing children in school or/and the morning nursery.
Children in the afternoon nursery need to be brought into school as usual.


Pre School and Family Groups ( same organisation as last year)

Those of you who want to bring toddlers and babies to school to be photographed with your other
children who already attend school are very welcome.

Please come into school with your child at normal school time and you will be taken to the main hall.
This will save us time in having to go and collect your child from class.

Once in the hall you will be given a number which will be the order in which the photographs will be taken.


All pupils will be photographed, individually and with their brothers and sisters, unless you inform us otherwise.

You are under no obligation to purchase these photographs, but proofs will be sent out with the children
as soon as they arrive in school. Information about prices and how to order the photographs will be contained in these envelopes. Please ensure the correct money is enclosed in the envelopes.

POPPY DAY

4th November 2010

On Thursday 11th November Parsloes Primary School will be holding a Remembrance

Day ceremony at 11 O’clock.

This year as well as selling poppies, we will be selling a red helium balloon for £1. The

proceeds of this will be donated to the British Legion.


The children will be given the balloon on the day to take outside and following our two

minutes silence, these will be released.


Please can you send in your £1 donation with your child by Wednesday 10th November

so we have the right number of balloons ready for the ceremony the following morning.


If you are around you are welcome to come along.

PARENTS EVENING

Dear parents


I am writing to remind you that Parents Evening will be held on Wednesday 10th November 2010 from 3.30pm to 7pm.


Please see your child’s class teacher to make an appointment to discuss your child’s progress

so far this year. This will be on a first come first served basis. Teachers are allowing ten minutes per appointment, so please ensure you arrive on time.


Please note that parents who attend termly review meetings with the Class Teacher, are not required to make an appointment but you are welcome to come and look through your child’s work so far this year.

Book Fair

Dear Parents

Book Fair Tuesday 9th November until Friday 12th November

Our termly book fair, which is open after school, will start on Tuesday 9th November and finish on Friday 12th November.

The book fair will be located in the school library so please enter through the library door located in the Junior playground (not through the main school office) from 3.15 until 4pm. It will also be open during parents evening, Wednesday 10th November, until 6.30pm.

Inside the booklet enclosed with this letter is a voucher for £1 off selected books and further information about the range.

Be Bright Be Seen Day Friday 22nd October 2010

Dear Parent/Guardian,

The clocks will be going back at the end of October. The nights draw in and it starts to

get darker just after school finishes.


To make people more aware of the importance of wearing something bright and to be seen

by other road users, our school is taking part in the borough wide ‘be bright be seen’ event on

Friday 22nd October. We are asking you to encourage your child to wear something bright

for the day.

It is not a non-uniform day. Your child should wear one item of bright clothing that can be

seen. This could be their trousers/skirt, t-shirt or jumper. They should then wear the

rest of their uniform as usual.

Children will be given prizes for taking part in the ‘be bright be seen’ event.

Please encourage your child to wear one item of bright clothing.

Personalised Christmas Cards

6th October 2010

Dear Parents,

Order to be returned by Wednesday 20th October

This term all children have been asked to create a piece of artwork which can be reproduced in full colour

onto Christmas cards. These will then be available in packs of 12, for you to purchase.

These can be great to send to family and friends.

The cards are available with a greeting inside or can be left blank and your child’s name will be printed onto

the back of the card (this needs to be printed in BLOCK capitals on the order form which is attached to the

back of your child’s work).

To make an order simply complete the form on the back of the piece of work and return to school by

Wednesday 20th October at the latest. Payment must be included with the order in a sealed and labelled envelope.

Completed Christmas card packs should be ready for the children to bring home towards the end of November.

Maths Week

30th September 2010

Dear Parents,

‘PARSLOES+ MATHS = FUN WEEK’

4th October to 8th October 2010

As part of our new School Developments we are focusing on Maths, and making this more engaging and practical. So we are having a week devoted to Maths.


During this week the children will be involved in numerous fun and creative Maths activities.


Many of the Maths sessions may be outside the usual classroom environment and children will

also get the chance to work with other classes and year groups across the school.


For example in Years 5 and 6 the children will be taking part in ‘Classroom City’. They have already been earning Parsloes £s by attending school on time everyday. The children will be taught to manage their own

money for the week.


On Tuesday Quantum Theatre Group will be performing, ‘Calculating Mr. One’ to year 1 to 6 pupils.


Over the week children will get the opportunity to cook in school, whilst learning about weight, measures, capacity and costs of ingredients etc, and children will be able to sample and buy food cooked in school on Market Day, which is on Friday 8th October.


Friday 8th October, Market Day, will be a non- uniform day.
Classes may have a theme for theirs and the class teacher will let you know.

We have only been back at school four weeks and already there are two bins full of lost property that cannot be returned as there are no names on them.

Arrangements for booking School Dinners

Hopefully this term we will be moving to a cashless system, this will mean that the school will no longer be involved in booking school meals. This is being rolled out across the borough. We will keep you informed and support you through this process.

At present our school staff support the School Meals Service by booking and ordering the school dinners.
In other schools this is done directly by the kitchen staff.

This is why school dinners MUST BE paid for and booked daily, as this is not school money,
it is money we are collecting on behalf of the School Meals Service and they prepare the school dinners based on the number of booked dinners ( including paid and free school meals).

If you are entitled to Free School Meals, please see either Mrs. Fairweather or Mrs. Parkin as soon as
possible as we can arrange this for you.

Please do not assume that we can automatically put in dinner money for your child, as we have to be
accountable for all school monies. If you need help please make an appointment to see a member of school
staff as soon as possible.

You can book a school dinner each morning before school at the Library windows.
The dinner window is open from 8.40 to 9.00am

Children receiving free school meals can book their dinner for the week on a Monday.

All dinners must be booked and paid for by 9.30am . We cannot order dinners after this time.

Welcome back to school and I hope you and your family had an enjoyable holiday. All the children seem to have settled in today and are getting used to their new classes and new teachers.

I would appreciate it if you could make note of the following reminders.

The only cardigan that can be worn is the school’s red sweatshirt cardigan with the Parsloes motif.

This cardigan can also be worn throughout the year.
Thank you for ensuring your child has come back to school wearing full school uniform. Please ensure that all uniform is labelled with your child’s name so that it can be returned to you promptly.

JEWELLERY

Please note children are not allowed to wear jewellery to school apart from studs or sleepers and a watch (providing they can tell the time). All this jewellery must be removed for PE lessons.

PE KITS

PE lessons will be starting this week for pupils in year 1 to 6. It is important that your child has the correct PE kit in school. This means all children should have red shorts, plain white t-shirt and plimsoles, which are labeled and in a named PE bag.

PUNCTUALITY

It is important that your child is on time for school and is collected on time at the end of the day.

When you come to collect your child at the end of the day can you please stand back and not stand by the door as the classes come out so that teachers can hand the children over to you safely and with ease.

HEALTHY SCHOOLS

As before all the food we eat in school has to be healthy. Infant children are provided with fruit at play time but your child may also bring a cereal bar or own piece of fruit to school to eat at this time. No chocolate bars/chocolate coated cakes/biscuits or sweets or fizzy drinks are allowed in packed lunches. Our Tuck shop, which is for juniors pupils, will start next week.

If your child is in Years 1 to 6 we have arranged an opportunity for you to meet your child’s new teacher
on Wednesday 8th September between 3.30 and 4.00. Please enter through the infant or Junior doors, with your child and he or she will take you to meet their new teacher.
