CAROL CONCERT Friday 9th December 2011 at 9.30


All parents are welcome to come along to this, even if your child is not in the choir, it will be in the main school hall. Entrance is through the Infant door. No tickets required.

CHRISTMAS CONCERTS: 13th & 14th December


These are our new arrangements for the Infants’ Christmas Concerts this year.


NURSERY
If your child is in our Nursery they will be doing their own concert to their parents during their coffee morning/afternoon on

Thursday 15th December at 10.30 for am nursery children and 2.10 for pm nursery children

RECEPTION,YEAR ONE AND YEAR TWO
If your child is in reception, year one or year two, there will be three performances of their Christmas concert.


Tuesday 13th December at 2pm

Wednesday 14th December at 9.30am

Wednesday 14th December at 2.00pm.


As there will be six classes performing, we are limiting tickets initially to two per family for each performance, as we can only accommodate 100 per performance in our hall.

There will be no charge but you will need a ticket to come. These will be available form the school office from the Thursday 1st to Thursday 8th of December.

From Friday 9th December any spare tickets will become available so please check then.



Please also note that pushchairs will not be allowed into the hall during performances for health and safety reasons.



Entrance for all concerts will be through the INFANT DOOR. Shortcrofts gate will be opened for these.

Maths Week

30th September 2010

Dear Parents,

‘PARSLOES+ MATHS = FUN WEEK’

4th October to 8th October 2010

As part of our new School Developments we are focusing on Maths, and making this more engaging and practical. So we are having a week devoted to Maths.


During this week the children will be involved in numerous fun and creative Maths activities.


Many of the Maths sessions may be outside the usual classroom environment and children will

also get the chance to work with other classes and year groups across the school.


For example in Years 5 and 6 the children will be taking part in ‘Classroom City’. They have already been earning Parsloes £s by attending school on time everyday. The children will be taught to manage their own

money for the week.


On Tuesday Quantum Theatre Group will be performing, ‘Calculating Mr. One’ to year 1 to 6 pupils.


Over the week children will get the opportunity to cook in school, whilst learning about weight, measures, capacity and costs of ingredients etc, and children will be able to sample and buy food cooked in school on Market Day, which is on Friday 8th October.


Friday 8th October, Market Day, will be a non- uniform day.
Classes may have a theme for theirs and the class teacher will let you know.

Emergency Contacts

It is important that we have up to date contact details for you. This will allow us to contact you either in an emergency for your child or if we need to contact you for an unplanned closure.

In the event of us having to close the school for an unforeseen event, e.g. bad weather, no heating etc. we will be able to inform you in a number of ways as detailed below.

REMINDERS

Friday 20th November 2009

SWINE FLU UPDATE

As I have told you this week, we have had confirmed cases of Swine flu in school. As a result of this we are putting the following into place and would appreciate your co-operation with this.

1. All children in the school to bring in their own water bottles, these can be filled up in school, but there will be no cups in any classrooms.
2. There will be no cups by the water fountains, there will be a limited amount of disposable cups by the fountains.
3. All classes will be provided with paper towels, anti bacterial hand wash and tissues.
4. We will continue to reinforce the ‘Catch it , Bin it, Kill it’ message.
5. We are following HPA guidelines if children are sent to the school office during the day.
6. We are keeping the Local Authority updated regularly.
   

HEALTHY SCHOOLS

This is a reminder that children should not be having any chocolate bars, sweets, fizzy drinks or chocolate coated products in their packed lunches. This has been the school policy for at least three years now.

Full Attendance Reward

FULL ATTENDANCE REWARDS
AT THE
PARTYMAN WORLD OF PLAY, LAKESIDE, THURROCK

We want to reward all those pupils who come to school everyday and are on time.

So we have made links with the Partyman World of Play at Lakeside, Thurrock and we will be taking these pupils to the Partyman World of Play to use all their facilities and have a party / disco with their experienced entertainers. Pupils will receive prizes and have a thoroughly enjoyable day.

This trip will take place during June 2010 and will be completely free for those pupils who have attended school everyday, on time from Monday, 30th November until the end of May 2010.

You child has been told about this initiative at their assembly last week.

We are sure that you would agree that if a pupil comes to school everyday they have the best chance of a great education.

Christmas Bazaar

Monday 23rd November 2009

Dear Parents and Carers

PARSLOES CHRISTMAS BAZAAR
THURSDAY 3RD DECEMBER FROM 3.20 TO 4.45

This year we are holding a Christmas Bazaar. The Christmas Bazaar will be held in the Dining Hall and you will need to enter through the Breakfast club door.

Visit Father Christmas:
You will be able to visit Father Christmas at the Christmas Bazaar for £1.50. You will need to buy your ticket in advance as Father Christmas will only be able to see 60 children at the event. Tickets go on sale Wednesday 25th November and Thursday 26th November from the Infant playground, by the Nursery gate.

Christmas Raffle:
There will be a Christmas Raffle with a first prize of a delicious Christmas Hamper, other prizes include, tickets to a football match at Dagenham and Redbridge, Ben 10 Torch, High School Musical pens and pencils and a lot lot more. Again I will be selling tickets in the Infant Playground Friday 27th November and the Junior Playground Monday 30th November 2009. They are priced at £1 a strip. You will also be able to buy more tickets at the Christmas Bazaar.

Stalls:
There will be stalls where you can buy some Christmas goodies, guess the weight of the cake, guess the name of the teddy, a white elephant stall (any donations of toys or household goods in good condition).
One of the stalls will be a clear cup stall, where every child will be given a clear plastic cup to fill up with sweets, pencils, hair clips, small toys etc, so that other children will be able to win them.
Also a cake stall, if you could donate a box of cakes or even some homemade ones, would be appreciated.

Christmas picture competition:
If your child can complete the Christmas picture attached, using pencils, pens, paint, glitter, etc. There will be a prize for the winning entry, from Foundation stage, KS1 and KS2. Don’t forget to write your child’s name and class on the back of their picture. Please return pictures by Wednesday 2nd December. Good luck.

Jolly Phonics

Jolly Phonics song book - £8.50
The perfect Christmas gift to support your child’s education

At our homework meeting we showed parents a copy of the Jolly Phonics song book with CD that we use to introduce phonics. If you would like a copy please return the attached slip with £8.50 in a sealed envelope with your child’s name on. Please hand to your child’s class teacher by Friday 27th November so that we can order the books to reach you by Christmas. Any orders received after this date will not reach you before Christmas. This is a perfect Christmas present. Your child will love to sing the songs with the CD that they have learnt in school.

Swine Flu - one or two cases

Dear Parent or staff member,

This letter is to update you on the situation which has occurred in the school today.

We have been informed this morning that one pupil in Parsloes Primary school is being treated for Influenza A/H1N1 virus or “swine flu”. There are likely to be further children with similar symptoms who are presumed to have the same illness.

The Health Protection Agency has provided advice to the school. As there have been a significant number of children in the community with flu-like illness it is likely that transmission of the virus has already occurred in the school and the community. Therefore there would be no added public health benefit from closing the school.

Please be reassured that most children will have a mild illness similar to normal seasonal flu, and will recover. If you are concerned about your child, please phone your GP for advice.

It is very important that your child stays at home if they have flu-like symptoms, and only return to school when fully well. Your child should not attend school and not mix with others outside the home if they have symptoms. Those who do not have symptoms of flu can undertake their normal activities outside home as normal. If your child has already had symptoms of flu but is now well, there is no need to take any action for you or your family.

General infection control practices and good respiratory hand hygiene can help to reduce transmission of all viruses, including the human swine influenza. This includes:
Covering your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, using a tissue when possible
Disposing of dirty tissues promptly and carefully
Maintaining good basic hygiene, for example washing hands frequently with soap and water to reduce the spread of the virus from your hands to face or to other people
Cleaning hard surfaces (e.g. door handles) frequently using a normal cleaning product
Making sure your children follow this advice

CHILDREN IN NEED

'DOING SOMETHING DIFFERENT'

FRIDAY 20TH NOVEMBER

We would like to invite everyone in the school to wear Pyjamas/Wear clothes back to front to school on this day.

They can also bring in a teddy for the day or a Pudsey if they have one.

All we ask is that your child brings in £1 for this non-uniform day, which will be sent to Children in Need.

We will be having a party in each class during the afternoon.

We apologise that this letter has not been sent out sooner but as we have had an OfSTED Inspection this week we had to make sure that the children showed the inspectors how much progress they have made before thinking about parties. Thank you for understanding.

Healthy Eating Workshops for Reception and Year One

Healthy Eating Workshop on Tuesday 24th November at 9.15am

I am writing to invite you to a Healthy Eating Workshop for Reception pupils and parents.
This workshop is about making and eating healthy food with your child in school. It is run by the adult college.
This is a unique opportunity to come and work alongside your child in class in creating a meal.
If you are interested you will need to be able to come into school for the whole morning.

This workshop would cover:
The five food groups
The importance of a balanced diet
Involving your child in making food preparation fun
Tasting and using new foods
A chance to work with your child in class

The day would start at 9.15am with an adult only session and then you will join your child’s class to work with them in preparing a delicious salad.
Finally a meeting with the teacher from the adult college to end the workshop.

This is the third year that we have arranged this type of workshop and hope many of you are able to come.

Massage in Schools Programme

10th November 2009

Dear Parents/ Guardians,

I attended training on carrying out this programme with Primary School children last year. You may remember that we introduced this to our pupils in the Spring term of 2009 and to many parents during our ‘Walkabout’ evening. We are planning to start this again during our Anti-Bullying week, which starts on Monday 16th November 2009.

I will be supporting the teachers in carrying these out and will also send home an information pack on the exercises. The Massage in Schools Programme is a structured programme for 4-12 year olds introduced into many schools across the world since the early 1990s. The focus of the sessions is to promote positive touch and to develop care and respect amongst the pupils which is fundamental for healthy human relationships and fits in with our school development plan this year.

The massage sessions are run daily in class for 15 minutes, are fully clothed and will be from waist upwards, focusing on hands, arms, back and head. The children will be trained to follow out the 15 different exercises on each other with the teacher offering advice and support only. The massage is given and received with the child’s permission before they start and they say thank you to their partner at the end. There are many benefits and effects of the MISP. Some of which have been improved concentration and a child’s confidence and self esteem and there have been reductions in bullying and aggression. Brit Writers Awards

BRIT WRITERS AWARDS COMING SOON TO PARSLOES

I’m writing to you today to let you know about an exciting new national writing initiative that our school is now part of – the Brit Writers’ Awards.

The Brit Writers’ Awards (BWA) are being launched this year to encourage and inspire unpublished writers of all ages.

This pioneering awards programme is focusing, in particular, on young people in a bid to raise literacy skills all round – and that is why we were very keen to get involved.

Our school is now a proud member of the BWA 2010, and this brings numerous benefits to the school itself, to our staff and pupils – and to you, too. Because all of our pupils and parents are now entitled to submit as many entries to the Brit Writers’ Awards as they like for FREE!

So we’d like to ask you to start thinking about crafting an entry or two for the awards, during half term, while also encouraging and supporting your child’s own writing efforts. You could win a superb laptop computer or the overall prize of an amazing £10,000 – the largest prize ever offered to unpublished writers in the UK!

To submit as many FREE entries as you like, all you have to do is declare your connection to the school by using our unique BWA membership number: f9d8a8. Autumn Term Parents Evening

PARENTS EVENING

I am writing to remind you that Parents Evening will be held on Wednesday 11th November 2009 from 3.30pm to 7pm.

Please see your child’s class teacher to make an appointment to discuss your child’s progress so far this year. This will be on a first come first served basis. Teachers are allowing ten minutes per appointment, so please ensure you arrive on time.

Please note that parents who attend termly review meetings with the Class Teacher, are not required to make an appointment but you are welcome to come and look through your child’s work so far this year.

Individual Photographs

Monday 2nd November 2009

Dear parents

Thursday 5th NOVEMBER: INDIVIDUAL PHOTOGRAPHS

Arrangements have been made for the photographer to be in school on the above date to take the pupils photographs individually, in family groups (brothers and sisters already attending school) and family groups including children not yet in school. This year we are changing how we organise Pre-School and Family group photographs. Should you wish your children to have their photographs taken, please co-operate with the following arrangements:

All school children should be wearing the full school uniform.

Individual photographs
All children in both school and nursery will have their photographs taken individually.

Family Groups
We will organise family groups containing children in school or/and the morning nursery. Children in the afternoon nursery need to be brought into school as usual.

Pre School and Family Groups ( new organisation for this)
Those of you who want to bring toddlers and babies to school to be photographed with your other children who already attend school are very welcome.
Please come into school with your child at normal school time and you will be taken to the main hall. This will save us time in having to go and collect your child from class.
Once in the hall you will be given a number which will be the order in which the photographs will be taken.

All pupils will be photographed, individually and with their brothers and sisters, unless you inform us otherwise. You are under no obligation to purchase these photographs, but proofs will be sent out with the children as soon as they arrive in school. Information about prices and how to order the photographs will be contained in these envelopes. Please ensure the correct money is enclosed in the envelopes.

Attendance

Thank you very much for ensuring that your child/children are attending school regularly and having very little time off school. Attendance levels for this half term have improved on last year already, so please keep it up!
At the end of each half term all the children who have had full attendance will be receiving a reward. This half term we will be giving out cinema vouchers to those pupils who have not had a day off school and always arrived for school on time.

Theme Week: Eco Week

14th October 2009

Dear Parents,

THEME WEEK: ECO –WEEK
Monday 19th – Friday 23rd October

This term’s theme week will focus on raising awareness of environmental issues.
Here is an outline of the week.

Monday: The focus will be on Energy saving.

Tuesday: The focus will be on recycling with year 4 visiting a local recycling plant

Wednesday: We will be carrying on with our recycling theme
Junior classes will have an assembly on recycling.
Each year 1 and 2 class will take part in a workshop on recycling.

Thursday: The focus will be on water and rivers.
Year 5 pupils will be feeding back on their trip to the Thames Barrier.
In the afternoon there will be a performance from Quantum Theatr
for pupils in reception, year 1, 2 and 3.

Friday: The focus will be on gardening and harvest.
This will be our dressing up day. Children are asked to come dressed in
gardening clothes or as scarecrows, be as creative and imaginative as you like!!

There will also be assemblies for all pupils during this day focusing on work done over the week.

If you have a real passion for these issues and feel you could add to our work over this week please contact your child’s teacher or myself to see how we could put your skills to good use!
