School Closures

21st November 2013

Dear parents,

How to find out if the School is Closed

If we have to make a decision to close the school unexpectedly, as we have in previous years
due to adverse weather conditions such as snow, we have three ways to inform you of this.

Firstly this will be posted on our website: www.parsloesprimary.co.uk  .

Secondly we also post this information on the borough’s website on their School Status Page; http://www.lbbd.gov.uk/Education/SchoolStatus

And finally we will send a groupcall message to the mobile number we have on our records for you so please ensure we have your up to date mobile number.

A decision will be made by 7.30 in the morning. Many factors influence this decision, such as staff being able to get to school, the condition of the school grounds and the conditions of the roads surrounding the school.

Please do not rely on phoning the school to find out this information as there is only one phone line and also there may not be anyone there to take the call.

We will also use these ways to tell you if the school is open during bad weather.

Thank you for your co-operation

Yours sincerely

French Friday

20th November 2013
Dear Parents,

As a school this term we have started learning French in Key Stage 2 and to promote this across
the school we are holding a ‘French Friday’ tomorrow 22nd November 2013.

This will involve children and adults using some simple phrases during the school day.
Such as           Bonjour          (Hello)
                        Merci              (Thank you)
                        S’il vous plait ( please)
                        Je voudrais    (I would like)
                        Au revoir       (goodbye)

To make this fun and exciting the children will be taking part in various French themed activities
during the school day, which will include learning about France, the culture, the food , songs etc.

At lunchtime there will be a French themed lunch (for those who are school dinners) and a
typical French breakfast will be served at Breakfast club, for those who are booked in there.

So your support with this and remembering to say ‘Bonjour’ in the morning will be appreciated.

Merci de votre collaboration!!

Yours sincerely,

Half Term letter

23rd October 2013
Dear parents,
HALF TERM UPDATE

Our half term break is nearly upon us, it has been a busy half term and I am sure the children and staff are looking forward to the week off, to recharge their batteries!

OFSTED
The first week of term we were contacted by HMI (Ofsted) to carry out a follow up visit from our inspection in April of this year. We are pleased to say that they have found that we have taken effective action to accelerate progress for pupils in writing and mathematics. Senior leaders and governors are taking effective action to tackle the areas requiring improvement identified at the recent section 5 inspection.’ HMI September 2013. The full letter is available on Ofsted website.

Therefore in next half term we are going to be holding parent events on how to support your child in maths, which will be held during our Maths Theme week (dates for the rest of the term on the reverse of this letter).

SPORTS
This year the government has given primary schools additional funding for sports. We are using some of this to increase the number of days our sport coach works, so more classes will be taught by Coach Ben; we have also started a girls football team for year 5 & 6 pupils in addition to our boys football team. This funding covers the cost of training for these teams after school. There will be more after school sporting clubs next half term. Already our football team are doing well in their league matches, having won all their matches so far this term.

REMINDERS:
School uniform must be LABELLED  so we can return any items lost. Please continue to ensure your child wears the correct uniform to school, which should include a polo shirt with the Parsloes Logo.
This half term ends on FRIDAY 25th OCTOBER and re-opens on MONDAY 4th NOVEMBER.

Thank you for your continued support this half term.

Yours sincerely

Mrs. A. Lipski,
Head Teacher

Industrial Action Thursday 17th October 2013

Thursday 10th October 2013
Dear Parents,

Industrial Action by the two main teaching unions the NASUWT and NUT

Thursday 17th October 2013

As you will have heard in the news, teaching unions have called on their members in London to take strike action, over proposed changes to public sector workers pensions and terms and conditions of employment.

This is happening on THURSDAY 17TH OCTOBER 2013
The majority of teaching staff at Parsloes are in these unions and will be taking part in this action.

Therefore I have no choice but to close their classes on that day.

For the teachers not in these unions their classes will remain open.

Only the following classes will be OPEN to pupils:

In Reception Class RW only

In Year 1 Class 1V only

In Year 2 Class 2AF only

In Year 3 Class 3O only

All other classes will be closed to pupils on this day so PLEASE DO NOT send them to school that day.

I am very sorry for the inconvenience this will cause many of you and have endeavoured to provide you with enough notice as I possibly can.

All classes will re-open on Friday 18th October 2013.

Yours sincerely

Head Teacher

Book Look

6th October 2013

Dear Parents

BOOK LOOK

Years 1 to 6

Now all the children have settled in to their new classes we have arranged an opportunity for you to visit your child’s class and have a look at their books and see what they have been learning so far this year.

This will be on Thursday 10th October 2013 after school till 4pm.

Please enter through the office, with your child and he or she will take you to their classroom, where he/she can show you their books.
The class teacher will be present to answer general questions only, as this is not our formal parents evening.
Our formal parents evening will be held after half term where you will be given a time slot to discuss in detail your child’s progress.

On the day you will be given a year group booklet with specific information you will need over the coming year If you cannot make this evening these booklets will be sent home with your child the next day.

(For parents of children in Reception or Nursery, we will be arranging opportunities later on in the term

for you to look at their foundation stage profile.)

We look forward to seeing you then.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Lipski
