School Closed to pupils on Wednesday 30th November 2011

24th November 2011

Dear parents,

Industrial Action by GMB, NASUWT, NUT and ATL unions on 30th November2011

As you will have heard in the news, nationally many of the public sector unions, including those mentioned above, have called on their members to take strike action, over proposed changes to public sector workers pensions and terms and conditions of employment.

This is happening on WEDNESDAY 30th NOVEMBER 2011.

The majority of teaching and support staff at Parsloes will be taking part in this action.

Therefore having carried out a risk assessment I have no choice but to close our school on that day, for health and safety reasons.

I am very sorry for the inconvenience this will cause you.

School will be open as usual on Thursday 1st December.

Yours sincerely

MATHS WEEK: Week beginning 21st November 2011

18th November 2011
Dear Parents

Next week is Maths Week at school, and the children will be involved in numerous fun and creative maths activities throughout the week, see reverse for list of some of the activities that will be taking place.

Many of the maths sessions may be outside the usual classroom environment and children will also get the chance to work with other classes and year groups across the school.

Whole School Challenge:

Each class has been set the challenge to design, set up and run a small business either as a whole class or in small groups. Most of the work they will be doing in school next week will link to this.

Parsloes Pounds:

All the children’s house points they have gained for the past week will be converted in Parsloes Pounds, in preparation for next week The children will have opportunities next week to ‘make more money’ ie Parsloes pounds by offering services such as helping around the school. The children will only be spending Parsloes £s for all the activities during the school day including market day.

After School events:

There will also be opportunities throughout the week for parents to buy goods from the children in the playground after school, the times will be advertised through the course of the week. All monies raised from these sales will go to Children in Need.

Here are some of the activities that will be happerning during this week:

All Week Year 3 children need any old Christmas cards, kitchen roll tubes etc to help make and decorate their Christmas themed products so please send any donations to Mrs. Macleod and Mrs. Steyn.

On Monday 21st November the children in Class 1 AF will be making pizzas to sell throughout the week and the children are encouraged to bring in pizza menus.

On Monday 21st November Year 2 children need any old Christmas cards, glitter, confetti etc to help make and decorate their Christmas themed products so please send any donations to 2L and 2W

On Wednesday 22nd November at 9.00am Parents of children in class 1B are needed to help ice cakes, please see Miss Baker

Friday 25th November All children in Year 3 need to wear a green t-shirt/top as they are dressing up as elves to sell their Christmas goods. Please see Mrs. Macleod.

Year 5 & 6

All Week Pupils in these classes will be taking part in ‘Classroom City’. The classrooms will be turned into a town for the week and the children are citizens of their classroom town. They have already been earning Parsloes £s by attending school on time everyday. The children will be taught to budget their own money for the week. As a result the children will be required to set up their own businesses to earn money and to buy and sell to the rest school on Market Day.

On Friday 25th November Market Day will also be a non uniform day for Classes 5O, 5J, 6MR, 6AR and they will be required to wear suitable clothes depending on their business, for example a suit and tie or an apron and chef’s hat.

If you have any further questions please ask myself or the class teachers.
Further information, dates and times will be advertised on the screens throughout the week.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Yours sincerely

POPPY DAY

3rd November 2011
Poppy Day/ Armistice Day

Friday 11th November 2011

It is important that our children remember those who fought and sacrificed their lives in both World War 1 and 2 so we can have the freedoms we do today.
Therefore for the past few years we have held a Remembrance ceremony on Armistice Day.
This year it will be on Friday 11th November at 11 O’clock.

In addition to making donations for poppies you will also be able to make a donation towards red helium balloons which will be released on the day. This year these will be in a net and released after the 2 minute silence

All the money raised will go to the Royal British Legion.

Weather permitting we will hold our ceremony in the main playground just before 11.00. Our year six pupils have been studying World War 1 and 2 and will be leading this ceremony.

At 11.00 we will hold a whole school two minute silence
Please can you send in donations by Thursday 10th November 2011.

If you are available we would love you to come along, Please bear in mind that if it is raining we may have to hold this in the main hall and you may have to be prepared to be squeezed in where possible!

Thank you for your support

Yours sincerely
