Multisports for Years 2 & 3

11th September 2009
Dear Parents

Every Thursday from 3.15pm to 4.15pm

We have arranged for Mike, who carries out many of our coaching sessions during lesson time, to run an after school multi sports club for the children in Years two and three. This club is open to boys and girls of all abilities. The children will learn to play a range of sports, eg hockey, basketball, football. The sports will vary and the children will be involved in choosing them.

Sessions will be outdoors whenever possible therefore players must bring appropriate footwear as well as weather appropriate clothing. Should the weather intervene we will move to the school hall. Any cancelled sessions will be made up at a later date.

The cost for each session is £3.00 or £18.00 for 6 weeks. It will run at least till the end of term.
All payments should be given to the coach on the day.

If your child is interested please return the slip below to the school office by Tuesday 15th September 2009. There are 24 places so places will be offered on a first come first served basis.
The first session begins on Thursday 17th September 2009.

Yours sincerely

Swimming For Year 4

Wednesday 9th September 2009

Dear Parents of pupils in Year 4,

Children in Year 4 will be attending Abbey Swimming pool in Barking, this year, to improve their confidence and competence in water.
From Tuesday 15th September Class 4W will start attending their swimming lessons. The children will be collected by coach at 9.10am and their swimming lessons start at 9.30am, so please ensure your child is in school on time.

Kindly note the following points:-
1. Swimming is part of the National Curriculum and all children are expected to attend lessons. If your child is in school they will be expected to go swimming. Only children with vulnerable injuries are not expected to go eg broken limb etc.

2. Please ensure your child has the correct equipment. Girls are allowed to wear one piece costumes only and boys must wear swimming trunks and not shorts. All children must wear swimming hats; these can be purchased at the swimming pool.( £1.50). You could purchase swimming trunks/ costumes and swimming bags from the schools’ uniform shop.

3. If your child brings in money to purchase a hat on the day, this should be given to his class teacher who will arrange for this.

4. Please check to see if your child has a verruca. If so please get some treatment for it. Children can still attend lessons but a verruca sock must be worn. Once again, Dagenham Swimming Pool have these for sale.

5. If your child has an inhaler in school, please tell him/ her that it should be taken to the Pool each week and returned to the office afterwards.

6. Children should normally attend swimming lessons NOT wearing goggles. If there is a medical reason for your child to wear goggles, they must be safety goggles. Parents must accept responsibility for any injury caused through wearing them and therefore are required to sign a disclaimer which is available from the school office.

With apologies for so many ‘rules’ but they are intended to ensure that lessons run smoothly and children enjoy them.

Please remember to sign and return the attached permission slip by Friday 11th September 2009 , as Class 4W’s first lesson is on Tuesday 15th September 2009.

Yours sincerely

Reminders for Start of New Term

9th September 2009
Dear Parents

Welcome back to school and I hope you and your family had an enjoyable holiday. All the children seem to have settled in really well so far and are getting used to their new classes and new teachers.
I would appreciate it if you could make note of the following reminders.

UNIFORM
Thank you for ensuring your child has come back to school wearing full school uniform. Please ensure that all uniform is labelled with your child’s name so that it can be returned to you promptly.

PUNCTUALITY

It is important that your child is on time for school and is collected on time at the end of the day.

Time Infants ( Reception, Year 1, 2) Juniors ( Years 3, 4 5 & 6)

Start of the school day 9.00 8.55

End of the school day 3.05 (Reception) 3.10 (Yrs 1, 2) 3.15

When you come to collect your child at the end of the day can you please stand back and not stand by the door as the classes come out so that teachers can hand the children over to you safely and with ease.

HEALTHY SCHOOLS

As before all the food we eat in school has to be healthy. Infant children are provided with fruit at play time but your child may also bring a cereal bar or own piece of fruit to school to eat at this time. No chocolate bars/chocolate coated cakes/biscuits or sweets or fizzy drinks are allowed in packed lunches. Juniors continue have their tuck shop at playtimes, which is run by our very capable year 6 pupils. When possible could your child bring in the correct money as this makes it much quicker to sell the cereal bars.

NEW CLASS TEACHERS

This year we are arranging a more informal opportunity for you to meet your child’s new teacher. This will be on Monday 21st September between 3.30 and 4.00. I will send out more information on this .

SCHOOL KITCHEN

Your child will probably have told you about our new school kitchen and re-decorated dining hall. The children are really looking after our new hall, it is now a much improved environment to eat their lunch.

OTHER WORKS CARRIED OUT IN THE HOLIDAYS

You may also have noticed an exterior door into our library and we have plans to open this after school for homework clubs and as a library, after half term.

TERM TIME HOLIDAYS

As I mentioned in last term’s newsletter our governing body has agreed that from this term no term time holidays will be approved at Parsloes. Having 10 days off school equates to 95% attendance and therefore any more time off for illness etc would mean your child would never achieve the expected school attendance figure. If you need to apply for special leave for your child all requests should be submitted to our Chair of Governors via the school office .Many other schools in this borough also have adopted this policy, as school attendance levels in this borough are a cause for concern.

Thank you once again for your co-operation

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Lipski ,
Head Teacher
