Swine Flu

1st May 2009

Dear parents,

Current issues surrounding Swine Flu

I am sure you are aware of the World Health Organization’s recommendations regarding the current outbreak of Swine Flu. In response to this schools are required to update their emergency plans in case this becomes a pandemic, which I must stress it isn’t at the moment.

We are following the Government’s advice on ‘Catch it, Bin it and Kill it,’ and promoting this by ensuring all classes have tissues and antibacterial washes readily available.

If the worst case scenario happened and the school would have to close, this in the first instance would be posted on our website
www.parsloes.bardaglea.org.uk . The link for this is News and Events on our homepage.

If you do not have access to the internet, and have not already informed us please do so as soon as possible so that we can make arrangements as to how we would inform you.

The school will keep you informed of any further developments or arrangements we make.

Thank you for your co-operation

Yours sincerely

Record breaking Walking Bus

11th June 2009
Dear parents

As a school, we agreed to take part in the Record Breaking Walking Bus at 10am on Wednesday 17th June 2009 which is exactly the same time as hundreds of other schools.

Tragically, a child is hurt on UK roads every 20 minutes. By taking part of in this event we want to raise awareness of road safety. The event is organized by BRAKE, the road safety charity.

We will then hopefully be part of breaking a world record by being among more than 100,000 children all walking in a crocodile of twos (holding hands), with adults accompanying them, on a 500m safe route around the school site.

This event is for all pupils from Nursery to year 6. All school staff will be walking with the children. On the reverse of this letter is the route we will taking around the school site.

If you are interested in joining us for this event please see your child’s class teacher or myself.

While we are taking part in this event please note that the school office will be closed during this time.

Thank you for your co-operation

Yours sincerely

Drug's Policy

20th May 2009
Dear Parent/Carer,

Revision of our Drug and Alcohol policy

As you may be aware, schools must have rules about managing drug-related incidents and about the administration and storage of prescribed medicines. Furthermore, as part of the National Curriculum, the children are educated about drugs.

We acknowledge that as a school we share responsibility for the education of our children with you, their parents and carers. For this reason we would like to consult you in the review of our ‘Drug and Alcohol Education Policy’. Not only will this help you to understand the school’s stance and approach to drug related issues, but it will also help us to ensure that the views of the wider school community are considered so that we can work together to achieve the successful implementation of this policy.

Please therefore find attached a copy of the draft proposed policy summary. I would be very grateful if you could spare ten minutes to read through the policy and then let me have any comments you would like to make.

I am happy to convene a meeting to discuss the policy if you think this would help.

Thank you in advance for your time and help in this matter.

Yours sincerely,

Kate Robertson
PSHE Co-Ordinator
