Behaviour week

11th January 2012

Dear Parents,

THEME WEEK

Monday 9th to Friday 13th January 2012

As mentioned in our last newsletter, part of our new developments this year is to further improve behaviour across the school day.

Good behaviour is fundamental to further promoting a good learning environment and ensuring all our pupils make good progress and achieve.

Since September we have been focusing on how our pupils behave when moving around the school and during whole school gatherings. We have been calling this our etiquette for the corridors and assembly.

This term our focus is on lunchtimes, as this is an area that children and staff have agreed could be improved.

In consultation with staff and pupils we have devised a new code of conduct for Parsloes Primary School. Your child will be bringing home a copy of this.

All classes this week are focusing on this code and part of this is being well mannered. This week, Mrs. Deville has devised a programme of lessons where children are explicitly shown how to behave while in our dining hall. This focuses on ensuring children display good table manners, make sure that they look after the dining hall so that we maintain a pleasant environment in the dining hall for all. In order to reinforce the expectations of this code, there will also be new rewards linked to this. So far this week, it is very pleasing to see how positively your children have responded to being praised for displaying such good manners, you should be very proud of them.

Also part of this initiative is to make sure all staff and children learn each others names and address each other politely. We believe that to make sure our children feel part of our school and have a role to play, it is important that the children know most of the staff and that the staff know as many of our children here as possible by name. With 470 pupils on role that is no small feat! Therefore this week all staff and children have been wearing name badges so we all learn each other names, when we meet each
other around the school.

As part of this, and to ensure we keep you involved, Mrs. Deville will be holding a meeting for parents to go through this Code of Conduct. This will be on Friday 20th January at 2.30pm in the dining hall, (entrance will be through the breakfast club door – Shortcrofts Road side) and will inform you in more detail about the Code of Conduct and answer any questions that you may have.

Please complete the slip below if you would like to attend.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs A. Lipski
