Please note that parents who attend termly review meetings with the Class Teacher, are not required to make an appointment but you are welcome to come and look through your child’s work so far this year.

Individual Photographs

Monday 2nd November 2009
Dear parents

Thursday 5th NOVEMBER: INDIVIDUAL PHOTOGRAPHS

Arrangements have been made for the photographer to be in school on the above date to take the pupils photographs individually, in family groups (brothers and sisters already attending school) and family groups including children not yet in school. This year we are changing how we organise Pre-School and Family group photographs. Should you wish your children to have their photographs taken, please co-operate with the following arrangements:

All school children should be wearing the full school uniform.

Individual photographs
All children in both school and nursery will have their photographs taken individually.

Family Groups
We will organise family groups containing children in school or/and the morning nursery. Children in the afternoon nursery need to be brought into school as usual.

Pre School and Family Groups ( new organisation for this)
Those of you who want to bring toddlers and babies to school to be photographed with your other children who already attend school are very welcome.
Please come into school with your child at normal school time and you will be taken to the main hall. This will save us time in having to go and collect your child from class.
Once in the hall you will be given a number which will be the order in which the photographs will be taken.

All pupils will be photographed, individually and with their brothers and sisters, unless you inform us otherwise. You are under no obligation to purchase these photographs, but proofs will be sent out with the children as soon as they arrive in school. Information about prices and how to order the photographs will be contained in these envelopes. Please ensure the correct money is enclosed in the envelopes.

Yours sincerely

Christmas Cards

28th September 2009

Personalised Christmas Cards

This term all children have been asked to create a piece of artwork which can be reproduced in full colour onto Christmas cards. These will then be available in packs of 12, for you to purchase. These can be a great to send to family and friends.

The cards are available with a greeting inside or can be left blank and your child’s name will be printed onto the back of the card (this needs to be printed in BLOCK capitals on the order form which is attached to the back of your child’s work).

To make an order simply complete the form on the back of the piece of work and return to school by Thursday 8th October at the latest. Payment must be included with the order in a sealed and labelled envelope.

Completed Christmas card packs should be ready for the children to bring home towards the middle of November.

Yours sincerely

Learning an Instrument in Year 5

29th September 2009

Your child may already have told you that this term, on Mondays they will be having music lessons, where they will be taught to play an instrument.

Cass 5M are being taught to play the violin and Class 5S are being taught to play the trumpet or clarinet. This is being provided by the Community Music Service.

Your child could take the instrument home to practice. To do so you, will need to sign a consent form and pay £6, to cover the insurance cost. Please contact the office for more details of this.

This is an exciting opportunity for our year 5 pupils and if your child takes home an instrument they must always return this to school on MONDAYS, to use in the lesson.

Thank you

Yours sincerely

Year 5 Trip to the Thames Barrier

28 September 2009

Year Five Visit to the Thames Barrier
on Thursday, 15 October 2009

We have arranged a visit for Year Five children to the Thames Barrier, which fits in with our year five Geography scheme of work. The LA has approved this trip and full insurance details can be viewed at the school office.
The children will be travelling by coach, which is fitted with seatbelts. They will be supervised by teachers and classroom assistants.

All children need to bring a packed lunch. This should be in a plastic bag, with their name on it, so it can be thrown away once finished.

We have booked the learning centre and their staff will be taking the sessions. This will involve a river walk, flood game and water sampling.

For the visit all children should wear full school uniform, strong sensible footwear and a waterproof jacket. The children should not bring pocket money.

We intend to leave school by 9.00 in the morning so ensure your child is in school on time. We will be leaving the Thames Barrier at 2.30pm and therefore aim to be back at school by 4.00pm. All children should then be collected from the Junior playground as normal.

Earlier this year the school won a Geography Association award of £500, to subsidise the cost of this trip. This has allowed us to offer this opportunity for your children at much reduced rate. Attached is a permission slip, which should be signed and returned to the school before Friday 9 October 2009 along with your donation of only £5.00.

If you have any further questions about the trip please do not hesitate to contact the year five teachers or myself.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Yours sincerely
