Walkabout

25th March 2009.

Dear Parents,

Walk About Evening 2009
Thursday 2nd April, 6.00pm to 8.00pm

We invite the children to bring their families to their school on Thursday 2nd April between 6.00pm and 8.00pm. They will be able to show you around the school and introduce you to all the staff. Usually you are only able to see the classroom where your child works, but on this evening the whole school will be open to you.

This year we are holding some events that you might enjoy taking part in with your child. These are aimed at giving you a flavour of some of the activities that take place here.

6.05 to 6.20 Upper School Choir will be performing in Main Hall

6.30 to 6.45 French Workshop in Class 4C

6.55 to 7.10 Demonstration of Massage in Schools Programme (MISP) in Class 6L

7.15 to 7.30 Performance of year 5 plays by school staff in the main hall

7.40 to 7.55 Year 5 & 6 Drama Club performance

We do hope you will join in with some of these events with your child and we would be grateful if you could tell us which ones you found enjoyable and helpful.

In addition to the above The School Meals Service will also be providing sample lunches in the dining hall.

We will also have information from our Parent Support Advisor, Ms Fortune, about the many ways in which she can support parents and their children.

We would be grateful if pupils coming back to the school could, if possible, wear their school uniform.

We all look forward to seeing you on Thursday 2nd April 2009.

Yours sincerely

School Attendance

16th March 2009

Dear parents,

Improving School Attendance is a National and Local issue. In line with the 1996 Education Act parents of a child of compulsory school age are required to ensure that the child receives full time education.
The government department responsible for schools, the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) sets targets for school attendance in the same way as they set targets for pupils’ achievements.
As you know, to do well in school, your child needs to be in school.

The national overall attendance figure for last year was 94.9%. Last year we only achieved 93.1%, whereas the previous year we achieved 94.2%.
Our current school target is 94.4% attendance. Therefore for your child’s attendance to be in line with the school target it means that he/she can have no more than 10 days off school over the whole year.

The other issue that this borough and many of its primary schools, including Parsloes, experiences is persistent absence from school. This borough is above the national figures for number of pupils whose attendance is 80% and below (having 38 days or more off school).

As a school we have a duty to ensure that the children on our roll attend school regularly and if a child is not in school we must seek a reason for this. Only the school can authorise an absence. Many absences are unavoidable and are generally authorised. But regardless of whether an absence is authorised by the school or not it is still an absence.

In order to make sure you are kept informed of your child’s attendance and the impact this may be having on their progress in school you will shortly be receiving a letter informing of your child’s current school attendance and whether this is below, in line or above the school’s target.

Thank you for your co-operation

Yours sincerely

Collection of children from after school clubs

Tuesday 10th march 2009

Dear Parents,

Due to the increase in clubs after schools, the differing finish times and the fact that some are using our playground now, you will no longer be able to drive into the school car park to collect your child.

To enable you to collect your child we will now be opening the Shortcrofts gate so that you can park in Shortcrofts Road and walk through to collect your child as before.

The Spurling Road entrance will still be open for pedestrian use only.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Yours sincerely

Red Day: Friday 13th March 2009

6th March 2009

The school council members in conjunction with the rest of the children in school would like to raise money for charity. As it is Red Nose Day on Friday the 13th March 2009 they have decided to raise money for this charity.

The theme for the day will be “RED”.

We will have a non school uniform day on Friday the 13th March 2009, where the children can come to school dressed up, but some part of their clothing must have red on it.

If your child would like to participate we will ask for a donation of 50p which must be brought into school with your child on that day.

Yours sincerely

Heather Bell KS 1& Yr 3 Co-ordinator.
